Alteril

Alteril promises to be “the sleep aid that can make all the difference in your sleep.” It prides itself on having an all-natural ingredient profile. All-natural products are a great alternative to prescription sleep aids, they generally are cheaper and without the terrible side effects.  However,  the list of ineffective all-natural sleep aids is long and finding one that works is difficult.

Does Alteril work? Alteril is a fairly average sleep aid. There is nothing new or revolutionary in Alteril that makes it stand out. It is just another generic all-natural sleeping pill with a different label. Let’s take a closer look at Alteril.

What’s in Alteril?

The Alteril website gives little information about its product. There is no supplement label or list of ingredients. Why wouldn’t they want to disclose this important information to consumers? Beats me, but it doesn’t really inspire confidence in their product.

The three ingredients that Alteril does lists are:

  • l-tryptophan
  • melatonin
  • valerian root

l-tryptophan. l-trytpophan is one of the many essential amino acids in the human diet. Ever wonder why you get so tired after Thanksgiving dinner (besides eating and drinking too much)?  l-tryptophan is one of the ingredients in turkey that makes you sleepy. It purportedly does this by moderately increasing the seratonin and melatonin levels in the body. l-tryptophan is not a powerful sleep aid ingredient but it can help the cause.

melatonin. Melatonin is one of the more popular sleep aid ingredients on the market. Why? It helps the body control its own internal clock and induces the body into sleep. However, it must be taken at the right dosage or it will not work. Too little of melatonin and you won’t feel any of the effects. Too much melatonin and it will actually act counter reactively plus side effects. How much melatonin is in Alteril? Unfortunately, Alteril does not disclose how much melatonin is in their product leaving us to wonder.

valerian root. Valerian Root is a solid sleeping aid ingredient.  What makes Valerian Root so good? Valerian Root contains valerenic acid. Valerenic acid has been proven in clinical studies to relax the body and induce sleep. However  like melatonin, valerian root must be taken at the right dosage (>600 mg’s) to be effective. The amount of valerian root in Alteril is not disclosed.

The Alteril website mentions “other ingredients” but does not disclose them by name. This lack of disclosure raises many questions as to Alteril’s quality.

Alteril Side Effects

Searching through the customer reviews the most common side effects were drowsiness and nausea.

How much is Alteril?

Alteril can be purchased online for $15.

Is there a money back guarantee?

The Alteril website mentions a “manufacturer’s guarantee” but there have been many consumer complaints about Alteril’s customer service so it is unclear if it can be trusted.

Is Alteril worth purchasing?

Mediocre product=mediocre results. Although Alteril is cheap, it is lacking in potency to make a real difference.
