Ciestrol

Ciestrol is a non-prescription sleep aid whose manufacturer indicates that it is meant for those who suffer from occasional sleeplessness.  This suggests that it may not be ideal for long-term use or powerful enough for the serious insomniac, but it’s ingredients may give us a few clues as to its actual effectiveness.

Ciestrol Ingredients

  • Valerian Root – Once used in perfumes for its aromatic flowers, this plant contains chemicals that provide a mild sedative effect.  Though for many it takes effect only after prolonged use, for some the effect is immediate.
  • Kava Kava – A plant grown commonly in the western pacific and used for a variety of purposes.  Contains kavalactones, which are sedative and analgesic in effect.
  • Passion Flower – used for centuries by native americans for its relaxing and even anti-depressant properties, this flower is often used in teas and is even smoked.
  • Chamomile – a commonly used herbal supplement with some evidence to suggest its effect at promoting relaxation.  It has been touted as a remedy for dozens of other ailments, but most of these claims lack any scientific evidence to back them up.

These ingredients are generally good herbal supplements, most with fairly substantial studies behind them supporting their ability to help you relax and potentially to sleep better.

Ciestrol Sleep-Inducing Effects

Kava kava is perhaps the strongest of the four ingredients in terms of its pharmacological evidence and is generally known to be effective as a mild sedative and numbing agent. Valerian root, passion flower and chamomile are all very commonly used herbal supplements for relaxation as well, though somewhat less powerful than kava kava.

Ciestrol Possible Side-Effects

Valerian root in particular and potentially the other ingredients may cause mild allergic reactions and so it is advisable to consult a physician before starting use of such a supplement.  For most people, however, the main side effects will be drowsiness…which is basically the whole point of the supplement.

Ciestrol Overall Value

One 30-day supply goes for $40, though the company is throwing in an extra bottle for free. This is a pretty good deal, though the only concern I have with the overall value of the product is that the specific concentrations of each ingredient are not listed.  In an effective dose, these ingredients have great potential to help you sleep, but it is impossible to tell which balance of dosage is included in each pill.  Since there are no refunds for bottles that have been opened, it’s a bit of a risk, but generally the ingredients look great.
